The answer is…
B. The first Etch-A-Sketch was released.
On July 12, 1960 the Etch-A-Sketch was released. The toy had two white knobs and a screen in the middle. Twisting the knobs allowed children to create their own works of art. One knob drew lines up and down (vertical) and the other drew lines across (horizontal). Most art created with the Etch-A-Sketch was pretty basic, but some artists have been able to make really intricate pictures with the Etch-A-Sketch. Today, children and adults still use etch-a-sketches to create art!
What is my child learning?
In elementary school, children learn to analyze, talk about, and create their own art. Children learn about various types of visual art and build strong vocabulary for discussing different styles of art . One way that children learn to describe art and create their own includes the medium in which the art was created. In other words, what kinds of materials and methods were used to create a particular piece of art. This activity helps students explore a new material for creating art and a new method, turning the knobs on an etch-a-sketch to create lines.
