The answer is…

Water!

For every square mile of land on the planet, there are almost 2 and a half square miles of water! And get this, almost all of the water is salt water, mostly in oceans, rivers, and lakes. That means that to get the water that we drink, people and governments around the world create a lot of cool machines and use science to make it drinkable.
