The answer is…

False!

A Pumpkin is considered a fruit! This is because of the seeds it has inside when you open it. That signals that the pumpkin is the flowering part of the plant and is a fruit. If a food is a vegetable it does not contain seeds instead when you eat a vegetable you are eating the leaves or stems or roots of a plant.

Learning Connections

In elementary school children begin to learn about life cycles and how plants and animals are part of our daily lives. Younger elementary children may start with a basic understanding of how plants work and what people use them for; while older children may dig deeper to understand agricultural practices, global food production and the nutritional value of fruits and vegetables. At any level understanding the difference between fruits and vegetables develops critical thinking skills and promotes a broader understanding of how and why systems in our society are in place.
