The answer is…

Blue Whale!

Blue Whales are the largest animal on Earth. That means in the sea, on land or in the air there is no animal that is bigger than the Blue Whale. They are big in terms of weight and can weigh from 48 to 219 tons and are big in terms of general size measuring about the length of 3 school buses.

Elephants are the largest land animal. They are also more commonly seen than Blue whales as many elephants are kept in zoos. Currently there are no Blue Whales in captivity. Even though they are smaller than Blue Whales, elephants are still very large. They weigh 2.5 to 7 tons and are about 12 feet tall. For context, the average car weighs 1 ton and the average house is 8 feet tall, so an elephant could weigh as big as 7 cars and is bigger than a house. Both animals are mammals meaning they are warm blooded and give birth to their babies.

What is my child learning?

In Kindergarten, children begin to understand concepts of measurement such as big or small and light and heavy. Children and their peers begin to solidify this skill through making comparisons. By comparing objects they are able to expand their schema and more easily recognize differences and similarities in the world.
